Tawus reported,

A man came to Ibn Abbas and questioned him, and Sulayman bin Dawud reported to us, saying that Shuba informed us, that Abdul-Malik said, "I heard Tawsa say that a man asked Ibn Abbas about the meaning of Allah's saying, 'Say, I do not ask of you any reward for it except love for kinship' .Saeed bin Jubayr said, "It refers to the relatives of Muhammad ﷺ."Ibn Abbas said, "You have spoken too quickly. There was no clan of Quraysh in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not have relatives. So the verse was revealed, 'Say, I do not ask of you any reward for it except love for kinship', meaning, except that you maintain the ties of kinship between me and you."

عن طاوس قال

أتى ابن عباس رجل فسأله وسليمان بن داود قال أخبرنا شعبة أنبأني عبد الملك قال سمعت طاوسا يقول سأل رجل ابن عباس المعنى عن قوله عز وجل {قل لا أسألكم عليه أجرا إلا المودة في القربى} فقال سعيد بن جبير قرابة محمد ﷺ قال ابن عباس عجلت إن رسول الله ﷺ لم يكن بطن من قريش إلا لرسول الله ﷺ فيهم قرابة فنزلت {قل لا أسألكم عليه أجرا إلا المودة في القربى} إلا أن تصلوا قرابة ما بيني وبينكم
