The Prophet ﷺ arrested some men from my tribe on a charge and detained them. A man from my tribe came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was delivering a sermon and said, "Muhammad, why are you holding my neighbors?"The Prophet ﷺ remained silent.The man then said, "People are saying that you forbid evil yet do it in private."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is he saying?"I began interrupting between them with talk, fearing that he would hear it and invoke against my tribe a curse from which they would never recover. But the Prophet ﷺ kept pressing until he understood what was said.He then said, "They have said it," or, "Whoever among them said it, by Allah, if I had done so, the burden would be upon me and not upon them. Release his neighbors to him."

أخذ النبي ﷺ ناسا من قومي في تهمة فحبسهم فجاء رجل من قومي إلى النبي ﷺ وهو يخطب فقال يا محمد علام تحبس جيرتي فصمت النبي ﷺ عنه فقال إن ناسا ليقولون إنك تنهى عن الشر وتستخلي به فقال النبي ﷺ ما يقول قال فجعلت أعرض بينهما بالكلام مخافة أن يسمعها فيدعو على قومي دعوة لا يفلحون بعدها أبدا فلم يزل النبي ﷺ به حتى فهمها فقال قد قالوها أو قائلها منهم والله لو فعلت لكان علي وما كان عليهم خلوا له عن جيرانه
