Whenever I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Allah would benefit me from it as He willed. And whenever someone other than him narrated to me from him, I would ask him to swear an oath, and if he swore to me, I would believe him. Abu Bakr narrated to me, and Abu Bakr spoke truthfully, that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "There is no man who commits a sin, then performs ablution and does it well," Masaar said, "and prays," and Sufyan said, "then prays two rakahs and seeks forgiveness from Allah
, except that he is forgiven."
Its isnad is sahih. Sufyan is Thawri. Asma bin Hakam Fazari is trustworthy, and Ibn Hajar Asqalani discussed this hadith at length in Tahdhib 1/267-268, attributing it to Sahih Ibn Khuzayma, and said, "This hadith has a good isnad." Bukhari also referred to it in Tarikh al-Kabir 2/1/55.
