I went early one day to Imran bin Husayn, and he said, "Abu Aswad," and then he related the hadith, that a man from Juhayna, or from Mazina, came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, "Messenger of Allah, tell me about what people do today and strive in. Is it something already decreed for them and settled upon them in a destiny that went before, or is it something still ahead of them, from what their prophet ﷺ brought them, so that the proof has been established against them?"He answered, "Rather, it is something already decreed for them and settled upon them."The man asked, "Then why do they work at all, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Whoever Allah created for one of the two destinations, He makes him ready for the deeds of it. The confirmation of that is in the Book of Allah
, "By the soul and the One who proportioned it, and inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness" [Shams 91:7–8]."

غدوت على عمران بن حصين يوما من الأيام فقال يا أبا الأسود فذكر الحديث أن رجلا من جهينة أو من مزينة أتى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله أرأيت ما يعمل الناس اليوم ويكدحون فيه شيء قضي عليهم أو مضى عليهم في قدر قد سبق أو فيما يستقبلون مما أتاهم به نبيهم ﷺ واتخذت عليهم به الحجة قال بل شيء قضي عليهم ومضى عليهم قال فلم يعملون إذا يا رسول الله قال من كان الله عز وجل خلقه لواحدة من المنزلتين يهيئه لعملها وتصديق ذلك في كتاب الله عز وجل {ونفس وما سواها فألهمها فجورها وتقواها}
