Mutarrif reported,

Imran bin Husayn said to me, "Mutarrif, by Allah, I used to think that if I wished, I could narrate from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ for two consecutive days without repeating a single hadith. But what made me hesitant and reluctant to do so is that some men from among the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, or some of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, who witnessed what I witnessed and heard what I heard, narrate hadiths that are not as they say. I know they do not fall short in seeking good, so I fear that something may appear to me as it appeared to them."Sometimes he would say, "If I were to tell you that I heard from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ such and such, I would consider myself truthful." At other times he would speak with certainty and say, "I heard the Prophet of Allah ﷺ say such and such."Abu Abdul-Rahman said, Nasr bin Ali narrated to me, Bishr bin Mufaddal narrated to us from Abu Harun al-Ghanawi, who said, Hani al-Awar narrated to me, from Mutarrif, from Imran, who is Ibn Husayn, from the Prophet ﷺ something similar to this hadith. I narrated it to my father, may Allah have mercy on him, and he approved of it and said, "He added an additional man to the chain."

عن مطرف قال

قال لي عمران بن حصين أي مطرف والله إن كنت لأرى أني لو شئت حدثت عن نبي الله ﷺ يومين متتابعين لا أعيد حديثا ثم لقد زادني بطئا عن ذلك وكراهية له أن رجالا من أصحاب محمد ﷺ أو من بعض أصحاب محمد ﷺ شهدت كما شهدوا وسمعت كما سمعوا يحدثون أحاديث ما هي كما يقولون ولقد علمت أنهم لا يألون عن الخير فأخاف أن يشبه لي كما شبه لهم فكان أحيانا يقول لو حدثتكم أني سمعت من نبي الله ﷺ كذا وكذا رأيت أني قد صدقت وأحيانا يعزم فيقول سمعت نبي الله ﷺ يقول كذا وكذا قال أبو عبد الرحمن حدثني نصر بن علي حدثنا بشر بن المفضل عن أبي هارون الغنوي قال حدثني هانئ الأعور عن مطرف عن عمران هو ابن حصين عن النبي ﷺ نحو هذا الحديث فحدثت به أبي رحمه الله فاستحسنه وقال زاد فيه رجلا
