Hayaj bin Imran Burjumi reported,

A slave belonging to my father ran away, so my father vowed to Allah that if he caught him, he would cut off his hand. He did catch him, and he sent me to Imran bin Husayn.Imran said, "Convey my greetings to your father and tell him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to urge giving charity in his sermons and forbid mutilation. Let him expiate his oath and pardon his slave."Then he sent me to Samura, who said, "Convey my greetings to your father and tell him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to urge giving charity in his sermons and forbid mutilation. أن غلاما لأبيه أبق فجعل لله تبارك وتعالى عليه إن قدر عليه أن يقطع يده قال فقدر عليه قال فبعثني إلى عمران بن حصين قال فقال أقرئ أباك السلام وأخبره أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يحث في خطبته على الصدقة وينهى عن المثلة فليكفر عن يمينه ويتجاوز عن غلامه قال وبعثني إلى سمرة فقال أقرئ أباك السلام وأخبره أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يحث في خطبته على الصدقة وينهى عن المثلة فليكفر عن يمينه ويتجاوز عن غلامه
