The Prophet ﷺ heard a man praising another man and going to excess in his praise, so he said, "You have destroyed him," or "You have broken the man's back."
حدثنا محمد بن الصباح قال عبد الله وسمعته أنا من محمد بن الصباح حدثنا إسماعيل بن زكريا عن بريد عن أبي بردة
سمع النبي ﷺ رجلا يثني على رجل ويطريه في المدحة فقال لقد أهلكتم أو قطعتم ظهر الرجل
Its isnad is sahih, and it is found in Bukhari 5/276, no. 2663, Fath al-Bari, in the book of Testimonies, chapter on what is disliked concerning excessive praise, and in Muslim 4/2297, no. 3001, in the book of Asceticism, chapter on the prohibition of praise.
