Hittan bin Abdullah reported,

Ashari led his companions in prayer, and when he sat down during the prayer, one of the men said, "Prayer has been established along with righteousness and zakat."When Ashari finished his prayer, he turned to the people and asked, "Which of you said such-and-such words?"The people fell silent.Abu Abdul-Rahman said, my father said that "arramma" means to fall silent.Ashari said, "Perhaps you said it, Hittan?" addressing Hittan bin Abdullah.Hittan replied, "By Allah, I did not say it, and I feared you would reproach me for it."Then a man from the group said, "I said it, and I intended nothing but good by it."Ashari said, "Do you not know what you should say in your prayer? The Prophet of Allah ﷺ addressed us and taught us our way and explained our prayer to us. He said, 'Straighten your rows, then let the most learned of you in recitation lead you. When he says the takbir, say the takbir. When he says 'nor of those who are astray,' [Fatihah 1:7] say Ameen, and Allah will respond to you. Then when the imam says the takbir and bows, say the takbir and bow, for the imam bows before you and rises before you.'The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, 'So that compensates for that. When he says, ‘Sami Allahu liman hamidah,' say, ‘Allahumma rabbana laka al-hamd,' and Allah will hear you, for Allah has said upon the tongue of His Prophet ﷺ, ‘Allah hears the one who praises Him.' When the imam says the takbir and prostrates, say the takbir and prostrate, for the imam prostrates before you and rises before you.'The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, 'So that compensates for that. When it is the time of sitting, let the first thing any of you says be, ‘All greetings, good things, and prayers belong to Allah. Peace be upon you, Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.''"

حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد حدثنا هشام قال ثنا قتادة عن يونس بن جبير

عن حطان بن عبد الله الرقاشي

أن الأشعري صلى بأصحابه صلاة فقال رجل من القوم حين جلس في صلاته أقرت الصلاة بالبر والزكاة فلما قضى الأشعري صلاته أقبل على القوم فقال أيكم القائل كلمة كذا وكذا فأرم القوم قال أبو عبد الرحمن قال أبي أرم السكوت قال لعلك يا حطان قلتها لحطان بن عبد الله قال والله إن قلتها ولقد رهبت أن تبعكني بها قال رجل من القوم أنا قلتها وما أردت بها إلا الخير فقال الأشعري ألا تعلمون ما تقولون في صلاتكم فإن نبي الله ﷺ خطبنا فعلمنا سنتنا وبين لنا صلاتنا فقال أقيموا صفوفكم ثم ليؤمكم أقرؤكم فإذا كبر فكبروا وإذا قال {ولا الضالين} فقولوا آمين يجبكم الله ثم إذا كبر الإمام وركع فكبروا واركعوا فإن الإمام يركع قبلكم ويرفع قبلكم قال نبي الله ﷺ فتلك بتلك فإذا قال سمع الله لمن حمده فقولوا اللهم ربنا لك الحمد يسمع الله لكم فإن الله عز وجل قال على لسان نبيه ﷺ سمع الله لمن حمده وإذا كبر الإمام وسجد فكبروا واسجدوا فإن الإمام يسجد قبلكم ويرفع قبلكم قال نبي الله ﷺ فتلك بتلك فإذا كان عند القعدة فليكن من أول قول أحدكم أن يقول التحيات الطيبات الصلوات لله السلام عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله
