The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a garden in Madinah, sitting on the edge of a well with his legs dangling down, when Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, knocked at the gate.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let him in, and give him the good news of Paradise."So he did, and Abu Bakr entered and let his legs hang down beside the Prophet's.Then Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, knocked at the gate.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let him in, and give him the good news of Paradise."So he did.Then Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, knocked at the gate.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let him in, give him the good news of Paradise, and tell him that he will face a trial."So he did.
حدثنا يعقوب حدثنا أبي عن صالح قال حدث أبو الزناد أن أبا سلمة أخبره أن عبد الرحمن بن نافع بن عبد الحارث الخزاعي أخبره
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان في حائط بالمدينة على قف البئر مدليا رجليه فدق الباب أبو بكر رضي الله تعالى عنه فقال رسول الله ﷺ ائذن له وبشره بالجنة ففعل فدخل أبو بكر رضي الله تعالى عنه فدلى رجليه ثم دق الباب عمر رضي الله تعالى عنه فقال له رسول الله ﷺ ائذن له وبشره بالجنة ففعل ثم دق الباب عثمان بن عفان رضي الله تعالى عنه فقال له رسول الله ﷺ ائذن له وبشره بالجنة وسيلقى بلاء ففعل
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are well known, and the hadith has already appeared at 19533.
