Zahdam Jarmi reported,

We were with Abu Musa when chicken meat was brought as part of his meal. Among the gathering was a red-complexioned man from Banu Taym Allah, who looked like a freed slave, and he did not come near.Abu Musa said to him, "Come closer, for I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ eat from it."The man replied, "I saw it eating something I found revolting, so I swore I would never eat it."Abu Musa said, "Come closer, and I will tell you about that. I came to the Prophet ﷺ with a group from the Asharis, asking him to provide us with mounts, while he was distributing camels from the charity camels."Ayub said, "I think he said, and he was angry."He said, "By Allah, I will not give you mounts, and I have nothing to mount you on."So we left. Then some plundered camels were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he asked, "Where are those Asharis?"We came, and he ordered five camels with white humps to be given to us. We set off, and I said to my companions, "We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking him for mounts, and he swore he would not give us mounts, then he sent for us and gave us mounts. I think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forgot his oath. By Allah, if we let the Messenger of Allah ﷺ overlook his oath, we shall never prosper. Let us go back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and remind him of his oath."So we returned to him and said, "Messenger of Allah, we came to you asking for mounts, and you swore you would not give us mounts, then you gave us mounts. We realized, or thought, that you had forgotten your oath."He ﷺ said, "Go on your way, for it is Allah who has mounted you. By Allah, Allah willing, I never swear an oath and then see something better than it without doing what is better and absolving myself of the oath."

حدثنا إسماعيل أخبرنا أيوب عن القاسم التميمي

عن زهدم الجرمي قال

كنا عند أبي موسى فقدم في طعامه لحم دجاج وفي القوم رجل من بني تيم الله أحمر كأنه مولى فلم يدن قال له أبو موسى ادن فإني قد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يأكل منه قال إني رأيته يأكل شيئا فقذرته فحلفت أن لا أطعمه أبدا فقال ادن أخبرك عن ذلك إني أتيت النبي ﷺ في رهط من الأشعريين نستحمله وهو يقسم نعما من نعم الصدقة قال أيوب أحسبه وهو غضبان فقال لا والله ما أحملكم وما عندي ما أحملكم فانطلقنا فأتي رسول الله ﷺ بنهب إبل فقال أين هؤلاء الأشعريون فأتينا فأمر لنا بخمس ذود غر الذرى فاندفعنا فقلت لأصحابي أتينا رسول الله ﷺ نستحمله فحلف أن لا يحملنا ثم أرسل إلينا فحملنا فقلت نسي رسول الله ﷺ يمينه والله لئن تغفلنا رسول الله ﷺ يمينه لا نفلح أبدا ارجعوا بنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فلنذكره يمينه فرجعنا إليه فقلنا يا رسول الله أتيناك نستحملك فحلفت أن لا تحملنا ثم حملتنا فعرفنا أو ظننا أنك نسيت يمينك فقال ﷺ انطلقوا فإنما حملكم الله عز وجل وإني والله إن شاء الله لا أحلف على يمين فأرى غيرها خيرا منها إلا أتيت الذي هو خير وتحللتها
