Dahak bin Abdul-Rahman reported,

Abu Musa narrated that when Allah defeated Hawazin at Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Abu Amir al-Ashari over the cavalry pursuing the enemy. Abu Amir set off in pursuit, and I was among those who pursued them with him. His horse carried him swiftly forward until he caught up with Ibn Durayd bin al-Simmah, who killed Abu Amir and seized the banner.I then charged at Ibn Durayd, killed him, took the banner, and returned with the men.When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me carrying the banner, he said, "Abu Musa, has Abu Amir been killed?"I replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."Then I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise his hands in supplication, saying, "O Allah, Your servant Ubayd, Abu Amir, place him among those whose ranks are highest on the Day of Resurrection."

حدثنا علي بن عبد الله حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم حدثنا يحيى بن عبد العزيز الأردني عن عبد الله بن نعيم القيسي قال

حدثني الضحاك بن عبد الرحمن بن عرزب الأشعري

أن أبا موسى حدثهم قال لما هزم الله عز وجل هوازن بحنين عقد رسول الله ﷺ لأبي عامر الأشعري على خيل الطلب فطلب فكنت فيمن طلبهم فأسرع به فرسه فأدرك ابن دريد بن الصمة فقتل أبا عامر وأخذ اللواء وشددت على ابن دريد فقتلته وأخذت اللواء وانصرفت بالناس فلما رآني رسول الله ﷺ أحمل اللواء قال يا أبا موسى قتل أبو عامر قال قلت نعم يا رسول الله قال فرأيت رسول الله ﷺ رفع يديه يدعو يقول اللهم عبيدك عبيدا أبا عامر اجعله من الأكثرين يوم القيامة
