There was a treaty between Muawiya and a group of the Romans. Muawiya set out and began advancing through their territory, intending that when the treaty expired he would launch a raid against them. Suddenly, a man on the edge of the gathering called out, "Faithfulness, not treachery!" It turned out to be Amr bin Abasa.He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever has a treaty between himself and a people must not tighten its knot nor loosen it until its term has expired, or he openly returns it to them on equal terms.'"
