Zayd bin Arqam reported,

I went out with my uncle on a military expedition, and I heard Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul saying to his companions, "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah, and if we return to Medina, the mighty will surely expel the lowly from it."I mentioned this to my uncle, and my uncle reported it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ sent for me, and I told him what I had heard. He then sent for Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul and his companions, but they swore that they had not said it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disbelieved me and believed them. I was overcome with a distress unlike any I had ever felt, and I sat at home.My uncle said to me, "What did you intend by this, that the Prophet ﷺ disbelieved you and detested you?"Then Allah revealed, "When the hypocrites come to you..." [Munafiqun 63:1]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for me and recited it, then said, "Indeed, Allah has confirmed your truthfulness."

حدثنا يحيى بن آدم ويحيى بن أبي بكير قالا حدثنا إسرائيل عن أبي إسحاق قال سمعت زيد بن أرقم قال ابن أبي بكير

عن زيد بن أرقم قال

خرجت مع عمي في غزاة فسمعت عبد الله بن أبي ابن سلول يقول لأصحابه لا تنفقوا على من عند رسول الله ولئن رجعنا إلى المدينة ليخرجن الأعز منها الأذل فذكرت ذلك لعمي فذكره عمي لرسول الله ﷺ فأرسل إلي النبي ﷺ فحدثته فأرسل إلى عبد الله بن أبي ابن سلول وأصحابه فحلفوا ما قالوا فكذبني رسول الله ﷺ وصدقه فأصابني هم لم يصيبني مثله قط وجلست في البيت فقال عمي ما أردت إلى أن كذبك النبي ﷺ ومقتك قال حتى أنزل الله عز وجل {إذا جاءك المنافقون} قال فبعث إلي رسول الله ﷺ فقرأها ثم قال إن الله عز وجل قد صدقك
