Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are well-known and trustworthy imams, and the hadith is found in the authentic hadith collections. Bukhari narrated it in Fath al-Bari 10/321-365, numbers 5763 to 5765, in the chapters on Medicine and Magic. Muslim narrated it in 4/1719, number 2189 and what follows, in the chapters on Greetings and Magic, and it is found in all the authentic collections, as well as in the Sunan and Masanid works. We will refer to this again in the Musnad of Ayesha, Allah willing, since most of the narrations come from her.What I want to say here is that many advocates of Salafism who display concern for the Sharia, though they are not truly so, declare daif all the hadiths about magic, on the grounds that this diminishes the status of prophethood. But they overlook the fact that Allah affirmed in the Quran that this happened to Musa , for He Almighty said, "It seemed to him, from their magic, that they were moving swiftly" [Taha 20:66]. This is exactly what happened to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that it seemed to him he had done something when he had not done it. Some narrations show that this thing was relations with his wife, and that he remained in this state for days, until Jibreel informed him, by Allah's command, of the location of the magic, so he extracted it.What these people overlook is that this happened before the revelation of the two protective surahs, and before the Prophet ﷺ taught us that whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi or the two protective surahs will not be approached by any devil that day. This is a form of protection, and after that the Jews were unable to do anything more. So the matter turned out to be a cause that brought great good to the Muhammadan nation. Had it not been for this protection, the sorcerers would have destroyed us long ago. Indeed, we have seen spiteful hypocrites, Jews, and Christians try to bewitch some of the scholars, only for the scholar's devil companion to tell him, and we have heard this with our own ears, that he is within an impregnable fortress.Finally, we return to those who claim to follow Salafism and say to them, the Sunnah has stated that the Prophet ﷺ was bewitched, and the Quran has affirmed that Musa was bewitched. Yet you have denied this from the Sunnah, even though the hadith is agreed upon. But you are a people who will be rewarded, by the Lord of the Kaaba. Yesterday you rejected daif hadiths with only slight weakness, today you reject sahih hadiths, and tomorrow you will reject the Quran and object to it, and that day will come, all under the guise of Salafism, and in the name of defending the creed. But Allah has exposed their cover, for today they fight amongst themselves, and they declare one another disbelievers, to the point that they declare disbelief in those whom they used to venerate only yesterday. This is the fate of every deviant. We ask Allah for safety.One of their senior shaykhs once argued with me about these hadiths, so I mentioned to him the verse, "And We send down from..." [Isra 17:82], and he was left dumbstruck, as if he had never read the verse, he who claims to have memorized the nine books by heart, to the point that he was about to deny the verse itself. Then I told him the hadith, but he remained dumbstruck.The day will come when these people openly declare what this man was unable to declare openly. But Allah is watching them closely, for I have since seen this man exposed for stealing from endowment funds, after hundreds of thousands of them used to venerate him. And there are many others like him in this same pattern.
