Jareer bin Abdullah reported,

We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and when we had left Madinah behind, suddenly a rider came hurrying toward us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It seems this rider is heading for us."The man reached us and greeted us, and we returned his greeting.The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Where have you come from?"He replied, "From my family, my children, and my clan."He asked, "And where are you going?"He said, "I am going to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He said, "You have found him."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, teach me what faith is."He said, "That you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, that you establish the prayer, give the zakat, fast Ramadan, and perform the pilgrimage to the House."The man said, "I affirm all of that."Then his camel's foot went into a rats' burrow, and the camel stumbled and the man was thrown, falling on the crown of his head, and he died.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Bring the man to me."Ammar bin Yasir and Hudhayfah sprang to him and sat him up, then said, "Messenger of Allah, the man has died."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from them, then said to them, "Did you not see me turning away from those two? I saw two angels placing fruits of Paradise into his mouth, so I knew that he had died hungry."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, this man is among those of whom Allah said, 'Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing, theirs is the security and they are rightly guided' [Anam 6:82]."Then he said, "Take charge of your brother."We carried him to the water, washed him, prepared him with burial scent, shrouded him, and carried him to the grave. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and sat at the edge of the grave and said, "Make a side niche, do not dig a trench, for the side niche is ours and the trench is for others."

حدثنا إسحاق بن يوسف حدثنا أبو جناب عن زاذان

عن جرير بن عبد الله قال

خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ فلما برزنا من المدينة إذا راكب يوضع نحونا فقال رسول الله ﷺ كأن هذا الراكب إياكم يريد قال فانتهى الرجل إلينا فسلم فرددنا عليه فقال له النبي ﷺ من أين أقبلت قال من أهلي وولدي وعشيرتي قال فأين تريد قال أريد رسول الله ﷺ قال فقد أصبته قال يا رسول الله علمني ما الإيمان قال تشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا رسول الله وتقيم الصلاة وتؤتي الزكاة وتصوم رمضان وتحج البيت قال قد أقررت قال ثم إن بعيره دخلت يده في شبكة جرذان فهوى بعيره وهوى الرجل فوقع على هامته فمات فقال رسول الله ﷺ علي بالرجل قال فوثب إليه عمار بن ياسر وحذيفة فأقعداه فقالا يا رسول الله قبض الرجل قال فأعرض عنهما رسول الله ﷺ ثم قال لهما رسول الله ﷺ أما رأيتما إعراضي عن الرجلين فإني رأيت ملكين يدسان في فيه من ثمار الجنة فعلمت أنه مات جائعا ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ هذا والله من الذين قال الله عز وجل {الذين آمنوا ولم يلبسوا إيمانهم بظلم أولئك لهم الأمن وهم مهتدون} قال ثم قال دونكم أخاكم قال فاحتملناه إلى الماء فغسلناه وحنطناه وكفناه وحملناه إلى القبر قال فجاء رسول الله ﷺ حتى جلس على شفير القبر قال فقال ألحدوا ولا تشقوا فإن اللحد لنا والشق لغيرنا
