Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, sought permission to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ while a young girl was beating a tambourine in his presence. Then Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, sought permission and entered. Then Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, sought permission, and she stopped.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Uthman is a modest man."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن هو ابن مهدي حدثنا شعبة عن شيخ من بجيلة قال سمعت
استأذن أبو بكر رضي الله تعالى عنه على النبي ﷺ وعنده جارية تضرب بالدف ثم استأذن عمر رضي الله تعالى عنه فدخل ثم استأذن عثمان رضي الله تعالى عنه فأمسكت قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن عثمان رجل حيي
Its isnad is daif due to the unknown identity of the narrator from Ibn Abu Awfa, but the hadith is sahih. It was narrated by Muslim, 4/1866, no. 2402, in the Virtues of the Companions, the virtue of Uthman, and by Bukhari in al-Adab, 207, no. 600.
