I asked, "Messenger of Allah, must the slaughter be made only at the throat or the base of the neck?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If you were to pierce it in the thigh, that would suffice you."
حدثنا حوثرة بن أشرس حدثنا حماد بن سلمة فذكر نحوه
Its isnad is daif. They then differed regarding the use of this hadith as evidence. The majority of scholars held that slaughtering is only valid at the throat and the base of the neck, and anything beyond that renders the animal carrion. Some of them said, this applies specifically to hunted game.
