The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was moving his lips during the days of Hunayn with something he had not done before. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "A prophet among those who came before you was pleased with his nation, so he said, 'Nothing will overcome these people.' Then Allah revealed to him that he should give them the choice between one of three things, either I unleash upon them an enemy from outside their ranks who will subdue them, or famine, or death."He said, "They replied, 'As for being killed or famine, we have no strength to bear it, but death.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "So within three days, seventy thousand of them died."Then he said, "And so now I say, O Allah, by You I strive, by You I attack, and by You I fight."
حدثنا وكيع عن حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى
كان رسول الله ﷺ يحرك شفتيه أيام حنين بشيء لم يكن يفعله قبل ذلك قال فقال النبي ﷺ إن نبيا كان فيمن كان قبلكم أعجبته أمته فقال لن يروم هؤلاء شيء فأوحى الله إليه أن خيرهم بين إحدى ثلاث إما أن أسلط عليهم عدوا من غيرهم فيستبيحهم أو الجوع أو الموت قال فقالوا أما القتل أو الجوع فلا طاقة لنا به ولكن الموت قال قال رسول الله ﷺ فمات في ثلاث سبعون ألفا قال فقال فأنا أقول الآن اللهم بك أحاول وبك أصول وبك أقاتل
