Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ set out on the day of the Conquest while fasting. When he reached al-Kadid, he broke his fast. Only the latter of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ actions is to be followed.Sufyan was asked whether the statement, "Only the latter is to be followed," was the words of Zuhri or the words of Ibn Abbas. He replied, "That is how it appears in the hadith."
حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله
أن النبي ﷺ خرج يوم الفتح فصام حتى إذا كان بالكديد أفطر وإنما يؤخذ بالآخر من فعل رسول الله ﷺ قيل لسفيان قوله إنما يؤخذ بالآخر من قول الزهري أو قول ابن عباس قال كذا في الحديث
Its isnad is sahih. In ح it reads Abdullah bin Ubaydullah, which is a mistake. Kadid, with a fatha on the kaf, is a place forty-two miles from Makkah. He said, thus it is in the hadith, meaning it was not clear whether this was Zuhri's statement or Ibn Abbas's statement. In ح it reads, thus he said in the hadith, which is a mistake, and we have corrected it from ك. The hadith with this meaning was narrated by the two Shaykhs and others, see al-Muntaqa 2175.
