He related to them that when they arrived in Medina from Yazid bin Muawiya after the killing of Husayn bin Ali, Miswar bin Makhrama met him and said, "Do you have any need that you would like me to take care of for you?"I said to him, "No."He said to him, "Will you give me the sword of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? For I fear that the people may overpower you and take it from you. By Allah, if you give it to me, no one will ever reach it as long as I have breath in my body. Ali bin Abu Talib once proposed to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl alongside Fatimah, and I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressing the people about this matter from this pulpit of his, and I had reached puberty at that time. He said, 'Fatimah is a part of me, and I fear that she may be tested in her religion.'"Then he mentioned a son-in-law of his from Banu Abd Shams and praised him highly for the way he had honored their kinship through marriage. He said, "He spoke to me and was truthful with me, and he made me a promise and fulfilled it. I do not forbid what is lawful nor permit what is forbidden, but by Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never be brought together in one place."
