Abdul-Rahman bin Zayd bin Khattab delivered a sermon on the day of doubt and said, "I have sat with the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and questioned them, and they told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Fast when you see it and break your fast when you see it, and observe the rites of pilgrimage based on its sighting. If it is obscured from your view, then complete thirty days. And if two Muslim witnesses testify to its sighting, then fast and break your fast accordingly.'"
حدثنا يحيى بن زكريا قال أخبرنا حجاج
خطب عبد الرحمن بن زيد بن الخطاب في اليوم الذي يشك فيه فقال ألا إني قد جالست أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ وسألتهم ألا وإنهم حدثوني أن رسول الله ﷺ قال صوموا لرؤيته وأفطروا لرؤيته وأن تشكوا لها فإن غم عليكم فأتموا ثلاثين وإن شهد شاهدان مسلمان فصوموا وأفطروا
