I came to my family at night with my hands cracked, so they smeared me with saffron. The next morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and greeted him, but he neither returned my greeting nor welcomed me.He said, "Go wash this off."So I went and washed it off, then came back, though some of it still remained on me. I greeted him, but he neither returned my greeting nor welcomed me.He said, "Wash this off yourself."So I went and washed it off, then came back and greeted him. This time he returned my greeting and welcomed me, and he said, "The angels do not attend the funeral of a disbeliever, nor one smeared with saffron, nor one in a state of major ritual impurity."He granted a concession to one in a state of major ritual impurity, that if he wishes to sleep, eat, or drink, he should perform ablution.
حدثنا بهز بن أسد حدثنا حماد بن سلمة أخبرنا عطاء الخراساني عن يحيى بن يعمر أن
قدمت على أهلي ليلا وقد تشققت يداي فضمخوني بالزعفران فغدوت على رسول الله ﷺ فسلمت عليه فلم يرد علي ولم يرحب بي فقال اغسل هذا قال فذهبت فغسلته ثم جئت وقد بقي علي منه شيء فسلمت عليه فلم يرد علي ولم يرحب بي وقال اغسل هذا عنك فذهبت فغسلته ثم جئت فسلمت عليه فرد علي ورحب بي وقال إن الملائكة لا تحضر جنازة الكافر ولا المتضمخ بزعفران ولا الجنب ورخص للجنب إذا نام أو أكل أو شرب أن يتوضأ
