Muhammad bin Malik reported,

I saw a gold ring on Bara, and people would say to him, "Why do you wear a gold ring when the Prophet ﷺ forbade it?"Bara replied, "While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, some war booty was placed before him to distribute, captives and miscellaneous goods. He divided it all until only this ring remained. He raised his eyes and looked at his companions, then lowered them. He raised his eyes again and looked at them, then lowered them. He raised his eyes a third time, looked at them, then said, 'Bara!' So I came forward and sat before him. He took the ring, gripped my wrist, and said, 'Take it. Wear what Allah and His Messenger have clothed you with.'"Bara used to say, "How can you order me to take off what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me to wear when he said, 'Wear what Allah and His Messenger have clothed you with'?"

محمد بن مالك قال

رأيت على البراء خاتما من ذهب وكان الناس يقولون له لم تختم بالذهب وقد نهى عنه النبي ﷺ فقال البراء بينا نحن عند رسول الله ﷺ وبين يديه غنيمة يقسمها سبي وخرثي قال فقسمها حتى بقي هذا الخاتم فرفع طرفه فنظر إلى أصحابه ثم خفض ثم رفع طرفه فنظر إليهم ثم خفض ثم رفع طرفه فنظر إليهم ثم قال أي براء فجئته حتى قعدت بين يديه فأخذ الخاتم فقبض على كرسوعي ثم قال خذ البس ما كساك الله ورسوله قال وكان البراء يقول كيف تأمروني أن أضع ما قال رسول الله ﷺ البس ما كساك الله ورسوله
