The Messenger of Allah ﷺ marked his sacrificial camel on the right side, then wiped the blood from it and hung two sandals around its neck.
حدثنا هشيم أنبأنا أصحابنا منهم شعبة عن قتادة عن أبي حسان
أن رسول الله ﷺ أشعر بدنته من الجانب الأيمن ثم سلت الدم عنها وقلدها نعلين
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Hassan is Aaraj, discussed previously at 591, 959. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud 3:79-80, and its commentator attributed it to Muslim, Tirmidhi, Nasai, and Ibn Majah. See also al-Muntaqa 2681.In al-Nihayah, it says that the term "badanah" applies to the camel, whether male or female, and to the cow, though it fits the camel more closely. It is called "badanah" because of its size and fatness.In (k), it reads "he marked his badanahs" in the plural, and in Abu Dawud there are also two versions, singular and plural. It will come at greater length at 2296, and the narration of Abu Dawud is lengthier, similar to the narration that follows.
