I asked Ibn Abbas about nabidh made in earthenware jars and gourds. He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade nabidh made in earthenware jars and gourds," and he said, "Whoever is pleased to forbid what Allah the Exalted and His Messenger have forbidden, let him forbid nabidh."He said, I asked Ibn Zubayr, and he replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade gourds and earthenware jars."He said, I asked Ibn Umar
, and he reported from Umar that the Prophet ﷺ forbade gourds and vessels coated with pitch. He said, My brother told me from Abu Saeed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade earthenware jars, gourds, vessels coated with pitch, unripe dates, and ripe dates.
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Hakam is Imran bin Harith Sulami Kufi, a trustworthy narrator. As for his statement at the end of the hadith, "My brother told me, on the authority of Abu Saeed," I could not determine who said this, whether it was Salamah bin Kuhayl or Abu Hakam. Nor could I identify this report transmitted from Abu Saeed, though the meaning of the hadith is established from Abu Saeed through many narrations, which will come later in his musnad, Allah willing.Al-jarr is the plural of jarrah, which is the well-known earthenware vessel. Al-dubba is the gourd. Al-muzaffat is the vessel coated with pitch, which is a type of tar. Its beginning will come later in the musnad of Ibn Abbas, 1852.
