A man said to Bara, joking with him, "You all fled from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when you were his companions."Bara replied, "I bear witness about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he did not flee that day. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the digging of the trench, carrying earth along with the people while reciting the words of Ibn Rawahah,O Allah, were it not for You, we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed. So send down tranquility upon us, and make our feet firm if we meet the enemy. Truly those people have transgressed against us, and if they desire to test us, we refuse.He stretched out his voice with it."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا عمر بن أبي زائدة قال سمعت
قال رجل للبراء وهو يمزح معه قد فررتم عن رسول الله ﷺ وأنتم أصحابه قال البراء إني لأشهد على رسول الله ﷺ ما فر يومئذ ولقد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يوم حفر الخندق وهو ينقل مع الناس التراب وهو يتمثل كلمة ابن رواحة اللهم لولا أنت ما اهتدينا ولا تصدقنا ولا صلينا فأنزلن سكينة علينا وثبت الأقدام إن لاقينا فإن الألى قد بغوا علينا وإن أرادوا فتنة أبينا يمد بها صوته
