Numan bin Bashir reported,

I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "The example of the one who is lax regarding the limits set by Allah and the one who falls into them," (Sufyan once said, "the one who upholds the limits set by Allah,") "is like three people who boarded a ship. One of them ended up in the lowest, roughest, and worst part of it. He had to keep moving back and forth, and it became burdensome for him every time he passed by the others. So he said, 'Let me make a hole in my section so it will be easier for me and I won't have to disturb them.' Some of them said, 'He is only making a hole in his own share.' Others said, 'No, do not let him.' If they take hold of his hands, he is saved and they are saved, but if they leave him to it, he perishes and they perish."

سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول مثل المدهن والواقع في حدود الله قال سفيان مرة القائم في حدود الله مثل ثلاثة ركبوا في سفينة فصار لأحدهم أسفلها وأوعرها وشرها فكان يختلف وثقل عليه كلما مر فقال أخرق خرقا يكون أهون علي ولا يكون مختلفي عليهم فقال بعضهم إنما يخرق في نصيبه وقال آخرون لا فإن أخذوا على يديه نجا ونجوا وإن تركوه هلك وهلكوا
