The Prophet ﷺ circled the Kaaba while riding his camel, touching the Black Stone with a curved staff he carried.He came to the watering station and said, "Give me a drink."They replied, "People dip their hands into this water. Let us bring you some from home instead."He said, "I have no need for that. Give me to drink from what the people drink."
حدثنا هشيم حدثنا يزيد بن أبي زياد عن عكرمة
أن النبي ﷺ طاف بالبيت وهو على بعيره واستلم الحجر بمحجن كان معه قال وأتى السقاية فقال اسقوني فقالوا إن هذا يخوضه الناس ولكنا نأتيك به من البيت فقال لا حاجة لي فيه اسقوني مما يشرب منه الناس

Its isnad is sahih, and Bukhari has a hadith similar to it in meaning. See Al-Muntaqa 2666.Here is the Messenger of Allah, the noblest of creation, the cleanest and purest of people, refusing to be brought a special drink of his own from the house of his uncle Abbas, insisting instead on drinking from what the people drink, into which they dip their hands. So look at what the pampered do, indeed what even the moderately well-off do when they imitate the pampered. One of them disdains to drink from the same cup as his own brother. Indeed, we have often seen some of the pampered disdain to let people put their hands in theirs to shake hands, treating them as filthy! Yet those people may well be closer to goodness, faith, and purity than they are.Ibn Kathir mentioned this hadith in Al-Tarikh 5/193, and mentioned something similar from Abu Dawud. See also 2946.
