Mughira bin Shuba reported,

I was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. He relieved himself, then performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks.I said, "Messenger of Allah, have you forgotten?"He replied, "Rather, you have forgotten. This is what my Lord commanded me to do."

كنت مع النبي ﷺ في سفر فقضى حاجته ثم توضأ ومسح على خفيه قلت يا رسول الله نسيت قال بل أنت نسيت بهذا أمرني ربي عز وجل
