The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Najran. The people there said, "Have you considered what you recite, 'Sister of Harun,' when Musa lived so long before Isa?"I returned and mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Why did you not tell them that they used to name their children after the prophets and the righteous who came before them?"
حدثنا عبد الله بن إدريس قال سمعت أبي يذكره عن سماك عن علقمة بن وائل
بعثني رسول الله ﷺ إلى نجران قال فقالوا أرأيت ما تقرءون يا أخت هارون وموسى قبل عيسى بكذا وكذا قال فرجعت فذكرت لرسول الله ﷺ فقال ألا أخبرتهم أنهم كانوا يسمون بالأنبياء والصالحين قبلهم
Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah bin Idris bin Yazid Awdi is trustworthy, as is his father, and their hadith is found in the collections of the Group. Tirmidhi related the hadith in 5/315, number 3155, in the tafsir of Surah Maryam, and said, "Sahih gharib, we do not know it except through the hadith of Ibn Idris."
