The sun was eclipsed in the forenoon until its darkness grew intense. Mughira bin Shuba stood and led the people in prayer. He stood for the length of time it takes to recite a surah from the Mathani, then he bowed for a similar length, then raised his head, then bowed again for a similar length, then raised his head and stood for a similar length, then bowed a second time in the same way. Then the sun became clear, so he prostrated, then stood for the length of time to recite a surah, then bowed and prostrated, then concluded the prayer. He then ascended the pulpit and said, "The sun was eclipsed on the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said, 'The sun and the moon are not eclipsed for the death of anyone. They are merely two of the signs of Allah . So when either of them is eclipsed, hasten to prayer.'"Then he came down and related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had been in the prayer when he began to blow in front of himself, then stretched out his hand as though reaching for something. When he concluded, he said, "The Fire was brought near to me until I had to blow its heat away from my face. I saw in it the owner of the crooked staff, the one who slit the ear of the bahira camel, and the woman of Himyar who owned the cat."
