A man came to the Prophet ﷺ with some lizards he had hunted. The Prophet ﷺ began looking at one of them, then said, "A nation was transformed, and I do not know, perhaps this is from them."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عدي بن ثابت عن زيد بن وهب يحدث
عن النبي ﷺ أن رجلا أتاه بضباب قد احترشها فجعل ينظر إلى ضب منها ثم قال إن أمة مسخت فلا أدري لعل هذا منها
Its isnad is sahih. Adi bin Thabit Ansari Kufi is trustworthy, praised by scholars, and his hadith is found in the collections of the Jamaah, though some accused him of Shia leanings. Zayd bin Wahb Juhani, Abu Sulayman Kufi, was one of the senior, trustworthy Mukhadramin among the Followers, and his hadith is found in the collections of the Jamaah.The hadith was narrated by Nasai, 7/200, no. 4321, in the chapter on Hunting, the Monitor Lizard, and it appears in the Sahih collections with similar wording that has been given many times before, see no. 17688 and its cross-references, and also 3068.
