Hasan Basri reported,

Ibn Amir appointed Kilab bin Umaya over Aylah, while Uthman bin Abu As was in his own land. Uthman came to him and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," (Abdul-Samad in his version said, "saying,") "There is an hour in the night during which the gates of heaven are opened. A caller calls out, 'Is there anyone asking, that I may give him? Is there anyone supplicating, that I may answer him? Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, that I may forgive him?'"Both narrators added, "And indeed Dawud went out one night and said, 'No one asks Allah for anything at this hour except that He grants it to him, unless he be a sorcerer or a tax-collector.'"So Kilab called for a small boat, boarded it, and sailed down to Ibn Amir.He said, "Take back your appointment."Ibn Amir asked, "Why?"He replied, "Uthman narrated to us such-and-such."

أن ابن عامر استعمل كلاب بن أمية على الأيلة وعثمان بن أبي العاص في أرضه فأتاه عثمان فقال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ قال عبد الصمد في حديثه يقول إن في الليل ساعة تفتح فيها أبواب السماء ينادي مناد هل من سائل فأعطيه هل من داع فأستجيب له هل من مستغفر فأغفر له قالا جميعا وإن داود خرج ذات ليلة فقال لا يسأل الله عز وجل أحد شيئا إلا أعطاه إلا أن يكون ساحرا أو عشارا فدعا كلاب بقرقور فركب فيه وانحدر إلى ابن عامر فقال دونك عملك قال لم قال حدثنا عثمان بكذا وكذا
