When one of you breaks his fast, let him break it with dates. If he cannot find any, let him break it with water, for water is purifying.Hisham said, Asim Ahwal narrated to me that Hafsah traced this report back to the Prophet ﷺ.

إذا أفطر أحدكم فليفطر على تمر فإن لم يجد فليفطر على الماء فإن الماء طهور قال هشام وحدثني عاصم الأحول أن حفصة رفعته إلى النبي ﷺ
