Amr bin As used to address us from time to time, when a man from Bakr bin Waail said, "If Quraysh do not stop, Allah will surely place this matter in the hands of some other great body of the Arabs besides them."Amr bin As replied, "You have lied. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Quraysh shall be the leaders of the people in good and in evil until the Day of Resurrection.'"
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن خبيب بن الزبير قال سمعت
كان عمرو بن العاص يتخولنا فقال رجل من بكر بن وائل لئن لم تنته قريش ليضعن الله هذا الأمر في جمهور من جماهير العرب سواهم فقال عمرو بن العاص كذبت سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول قريش ولاة الناس في الخير والشر إلى يوم القيامة
Its isnad is sahih. Khubayb bin Zubayr should correctly be Khubayb bin Abdullah bin Zubayr, who is a well-known trustworthy narrator. Likewise, Abdullah bin Abu Huzayl is among the trustworthy Successors. The hadith was narrated by Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah 2/527, no. 1110.
