We accompanied Uqba bin Amir on a journey, and he would not lead us in prayer. We said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you. Will you not lead us in prayer, since you are one of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ?"He replied, "No. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever leads the people in prayer and observes its proper time and completes it fully, the reward is for him and for them. But whoever falls short in any of that, the burden is upon him and not upon them.'"
حدثنا علي بن عاصم قال حدثني عبد الرحمن بن حرملة
صحبنا عقبة بن عامر في سفر فجعل لا يؤمنا قال فقلنا له رحمك الله ألا تؤمنا وأنت من أصحاب محمد ﷺ قال لا إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من أم الناس فأصاب الوقت وأتم الصلاة فله ولهم ومن انتقص من ذلك فعليه ولا عليهم
