When the plague struck, Amr bin As said, "It is a defilement, so disperse and get away from it."When this reached Shurahbil bin Hasanah, he said, "I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Amr is more astray than his family's stray camel. This plague is the supplication of your Prophet, the mercy of your Lord, and the way the righteous before you died. So gather together to face it and do not disperse from it."When this reached Amr bin As, he said, "He has spoken the truth."

وقع الطاعون فقال عمرو بن العاص إنه رجس فتفرقوا عنه فبلغ ذلك شرحبيل ابن حسنة فقال لقد صحبت رسول الله ﷺ وعمرو أضل من بعير أهله إنه دعوة نبيكم ورحمة ربكم وموت الصالحين قبلكم فاجتمعوا له ولا تفرقوا عنه فبلغ ذلك عمرو بن العاص فقال صدق
