I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, we live in a land of the People of the Book, may we eat from their vessels? And we live in hunting country, where I hunt with my bow, with my trained dog, and with my untrained dog. Tell me what is permissible."He said, "As for what you mentioned about being in the land of the People of the Book and eating from their vessels, if you can find vessels other than theirs, do not eat from theirs. But if you cannot find any other, then wash them and eat from them. As for what you mentioned about being in hunting country, whatever you catch with your bow after mentioning the name of Allah, eat it. Whatever you catch with your trained dog after mentioning the name of Allah, eat it. And whatever you catch with your untrained dog and reach in time to slaughter properly, eat it."
حدثنا عبد الله بن يزيد حدثنا حيوة أخبرني ربيعة بن يزيد الدمشقي عن أبي إدريس الخولاني
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ فقلت يا رسول الله إنا بأرض أهل كتاب أفنأكل في آنيتهم وإنا في أرض صيد أصيد بقوسي وأصيد بكلبي المعلم وأصيد بكلبي الذي ليس بمعلم فأخبرني ماذا يصلح قال أما ما ذكرت أنكم بأرض أهل كتاب تأكل في آنيتهم فإن وجدتم غير آنيتهم فلا تأكلوا فيها وإن لم تجدوا غير آنيتهم فاغسلوها ثم كلوا فيها وأما ما ذكرت أنكم بأرض صيد فإن صدت بقوسك وذكرت اسم الله فكل وما صدت بكلبك المعلم فاذكر اسم الله ثم كل وما صدت بكلبك الذي ليس بمعلم فأدركت ذكاته فكل
