Muttalib bin Rabia reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The night prayer is two by two. When one of you prays, let him recite the tashahhud after every two units, then let him press in his supplication. When he supplicates, let him be calm, humble, and show his neediness. Whoever does not do that, his prayer is deficient, or like a deficient one."

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى وإذا صلى أحدكم فليتشهد في كل ركعتين ثم ليلحف في المسألة ثم إذا دعا فليتساكن وليتبأس وليتضعف فمن لم يفعل ذلك فذاك الخداج أو كالخداج
