We performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the morning prayer, or the dawn prayer. Then he turned and sat facing the people. He noticed two men at the back who had not prayed with the congregation, so he said, "Bring those two men to me."They were brought, trembling with fear. He asked, "What kept you from praying with the people?"They replied, "Messenger of Allah, we had already prayed at our camp."He said, "Do not do that. If one of you prays at his camp and then catches the prayer with the imam, let him pray it with him, for it counts as a voluntary prayer for him."One of them said, "Pray for forgiveness for me, Messenger of Allah," so he asked forgiveness for him.Then the people rose toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I rose with them. I was in those days the youngest and strongest of men. I kept pushing through the crowd until I reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I took his hand and placed it either on my face or on my chest. I have never felt anything more fragrant or cooler than the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was that day in the Mosque of al-Khayf.
حدثنا بهز حدثنا أبو عوانة عن يعلى بن عطاء
حججنا مع رسول الله ﷺ حجة الوداع قال فصلى بنا رسول الله ﷺ صلاة الصبح أو الفجر قال ثم انحرف جالسا أو استقبل الناس بوجهه فإذا هو برجلين من وراء الناس لم يصليا مع الناس فقال ائتوني بهذين الرجلين قال فأتي بهما ترعد فرائصهما فقال ما منعكما أن تصليا مع الناس قالا يا رسول الله إنا قد كنا صلينا في الرحال قال فلا تفعلا إذا صلى أحدكم في رحله ثم أدرك الصلاة مع الإمام فليصلها معه فإنها له نافلة قال فقال أحدهما استغفر لي يا رسول الله فاستغفر له قال ونهض الناس إلى رسول الله ﷺ ونهضت معهم وأنا يومئذ أشب الرجال وأجلده قال فما زلت أزحم الناس حتى وصلت إلى رسول الله ﷺ فأخذت بيده فوضعتها إما على وجهي أو صدري قال فما وجدت شيئا أطيب ولا أبرد من يد رسول الله ﷺ قال وهو يومئذ في مسجد الخيف
