My father said, I was sitting with Uqba bin Amir near the pulpit on a Friday when Muhammad bin Abu Huzaifa came out, ascended the pulpit, and addressed the people. He then recited to them a surah from the Quran, and he was among the finest reciters of the people.Uqba bin Amir said, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Some men will recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass out of the religion as an arrow passes through its target.'"

حدثني أبي قال كنت مع عقبة بن عامر جالسا قريبا من المنبر يوم الجمعة فخرج محمد بن أبي حذيفة فاستوى على المنبر فخطب الناس ثم قرأ عليهم سورة من القرآن قال وكان من أقرإ الناس قال فقال عقبة بن عامر صدق الله ورسوله إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ليقرأن القرآن رجال لا يجاوز تراقيهم يمرقون من الدين كما يمرق السهم من الرمية
