Marwan addressed the people and spoke about Mecca and its sanctity. Rafi bin Khadij called out to him, saying, "If Mecca is a sanctuary, then Medina is also a sanctuary, made sacred by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. This is recorded with us on a piece of Khawlani leather. If you wish, we can read it to you."Marwan called back, "Yes, that has reached us as well."
حدثنا سريج قال حدثنا فليح عن عتبة بن مسلم
خطب مروان الناس فذكر مكة وحرمتها فناداه رافع بن خديج فقال إن مكة إن تكن حرما فإن المدينة حرم حرمها رسول الله ﷺ وهو مكتوب عندنا في أديم خولاني إن شئت أن نقرئكه فعلنا فناداه مروان أجل قد بلغنا ذلك
