His mother said to him, "Why don't you go and ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just as other people ask him?" So I set out to ask him, and I found him standing and delivering a sermon, saying, "Whoever seeks to abstain from begging, Allah will keep him chaste. Whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will enrich him. And whoever begs from people while he possesses the equivalent of five ounces, has begged insistently."I said to myself, "Surely my she-camel is worth more than five ounces, and my servant's camel is worth more than five ounces too." So I returned without asking him for anything.
حدثنا أبو بكر الحنفي قال حدثنا عبد الحميد بن جعفر عن أبيه
له أمه ألا تنطلق فتسأل رسول الله ﷺ كما يسأله الناس فانطلقت أسأله فوجدته قائما يخطب وهو يقول من استعف أعفه الله ومن استغنى أغناه الله ومن سأل الناس وله عدل خمس أواق فقد سأل إلحافا فقلت بيني وبين نفسي لناقة له هي خير من خمس أواق ولغلامه ناقة أخرى هي خير من خمس أواق فرجعت ولم أسأله
