Hasan bin Ali addressed us after the killing of Ali and said, "Yesterday a man departed from you whom those who came before could not surpass in knowledge, nor will those who come after attain his rank. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would dispatch him on a mission and hand him the banner, and he would not return until victory was granted through him. He left behind neither gold nor silver, except seven hundred dirhams from his stipend, which he had set aside to purchase a servant for his family."
حدثنا وكيع عن إسرائيل عن أبي إسحاق
خطبنا الحسن بن علي بعد قتل علي فقال لقد فارقكم رجل بالأمس ما سبقه الأولون بعلم ولا أدركه الآخرون إن كان رسول الله ﷺ ليبعثه ويعطيه الراية فلا ينصرف حتى يفتح له وما ترك من صفراء ولا بيضاء إلا سبع مائة درهم من عطائه كان يرصدها لخادم لأهله
