A man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?"He replied, "That your heart submits to Allah , and that the Muslims are safe from your tongue and your hand."The man asked, "Which form of Islam is best?"He answered, "Faith."The man asked, "And what is faith?"He said, "That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the resurrection after death."The man asked, "Which form of faith is best?"He answered, "Hijrah."The man asked, "And what is hijrah?"He said, "That you forsake evil."The man asked, "Which form of hijrah is best?"He answered, "Jihad."The man asked, "And what is jihad?"He said, "That you fight the disbelievers when you encounter them."The man asked, "Which form of jihad is best?"He answered, "The one whose horse is hamstrung and whose blood is shed."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two further deeds that are the best of all, unless someone performs something equal to them, an accepted hajj or an Amra."
