Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan reported,

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "I am only a treasurer, and it is Allah who gives. Whoever I grant a gift to with a willing heart, it will be blessed for him. But whoever I grant a gift to because of his greedy soul and persistent asking is like one who eats but is never satisfied."

حدثنا يحيى بن إسحاق أخبرنا ابن لهيعة عن جعفر بن ربيعة عن ربيعة بن يزيد عن عبد الله بن عامر اليحصبي قال سمعت

معاوية بن أبي سفيان يقول

سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إنما أنا خازن وإنما يعطي الله عز وجل فمن أعطيته عطاء بطيب نفس فإنه يبارك له فيه ومن أعطيته عطاء بشره نفس وشره مسألة فهو كالذي يأكل فلا يشبع
