Dhi Mikhmar reported,

We were with him on a journey, and when he turned back he hastened his pace. He used to do that because of the scarcity of provisions. Someone said to him, "Messenger of Allah, the people have been cut off behind you." So he held back, and the people held back with him until they were all gathered to him.He said to them, "What do you think about taking a short nap?" Or someone suggested it to him. So he dismounted and they dismounted.He said, "Who will keep watch over us tonight?"I said, "I will, may Allah make me your ransom."He handed me the halter of his she-camel and said, "Take this, and do not be a fool."So I took hold of the halter of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ she-camel and the halter of my own she-camel, and I went off a short distance. I let them loose to graze, and I kept watching them until sleep overtook me. I was not aware of anything until I felt the heat of the sun on my face. I woke up and looked right and left, and there were the two mounts not far from me. I took hold of the halter of the Prophet's ﷺ she-camel and of my own she-camel and went to the nearest of the people and woke him.I said to him, "Have you prayed?"He said, "No."So the people woke one another until the Prophet ﷺ awoke. He said, "Bilal, do I have any water in the small water vessel?"Bilal said, "Yes, may Allah make me your ransom."He brought him water for ablution, and he performed ablution without the water mixing with dust. Then he ordered Bilal, who gave the call to prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ stood and prayed the two units before the dawn prayer, unhurried. Then he ordered him, and Bilal called the iqamah, and he prayed without haste.Someone said to him, "Prophet of Allah, have we fallen short?"He said, "No. Allah took our souls and has now returned them to us, and we have prayed."

حدثنا أبو النضر حدثنا حريز عن يزيد بن صليح

عن ذي مخمر وكان رجلا من الحبشة يخدم النبي ﷺ قال

كنا معه في سفر فأسرع السير حين انصرف وكان يفعل ذلك لقلة الزاد فقال له قائل يا رسول الله قد انقطع الناس وراءك فحبس وحبس الناس معه حتى تكاملوا إليه فقال لهم هل لكم أن نهجع هجعة أو قال له قائل فنزل ونزلوا فقال من يكلؤنا الليلة فقلت أنا جعلني الله فداءك فأعطاني خطام ناقته فقال هاك لا تكونن لكع قال فأخذت بخطام ناقة رسول الله ﷺ وبخطام ناقتي فتنحيت غير بعيد فخليت سبيلهما يرعيان فإني كذاك أنظر إليهما حتى أخذني النوم فلم أشعر بشيء حتى وجدت حر الشمس على وجهي فاستيقظت فنظرت يمينا وشمالا فإذا أنا بالراحلتين مني غير بعيد فأخذت بخطام ناقة النبي ﷺ وبخطام ناقتي فأتيت أدنى القوم فأيقظته فقلت له أصليتم قال لا فأيقظ الناس بعضهم بعضا حتى استيقظ النبي ﷺ فقال يا بلال هل لي في الميضأة يعني الإداوة قال نعم جعلني الله فداءك فأتاه بوضوء فتوضأ لم يلت منه التراب فأمر بلالا فأذن ثم قام النبي ﷺ فصلى الركعتين قبل الصبح وهو غير عجل ثم أمره فأقام الصلاة فصلى وهو غير عجل فقال له قائل يا نبي الله أفرطنا قال لا قبض الله عز وجل أرواحنا وقد ردها إلينا وقد صلينا
