Khalid, the one called the Sword of Allah, reported that he entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, who was his maternal aunt and the maternal aunt of Ibn Abbas. There he found a roasted lizard which her sister Hufaydah bint Harith had brought from Najd. She presented the lizard to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who rarely extended his hand to any food until he had been told what it was and it had been named for him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached out his hand toward the lizard, but one of the women present said, "Inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what you have placed before him."The women said, "It is a lizard, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew his hand from the lizard.Khalid bin Walid asked, "Is the lizard forbidden, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "No, but it is not found in the land of my people, and I find myself averse to it."Khalid said, "So I drew it toward me and ate it while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ watched me, and he did not forbid me."
