The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a journey and said, "Who will keep watch for us tonight so that we do not sleep through the dawn prayer?"Bilal replied, "I will."He turned to face the place where the sun rises, but sleep overcame them, and nothing woke them except the heat of the sun. They got up and moved away from that spot, then performed ablution. Bilal called the adhan, and they prayed the two rakahs, then prayed the dawn prayer.
قال حدثنا عبد الصمد وعفان قالا حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن عمرو بن دينار
كان رسول الله ﷺ في سفر قال من يكلؤنا الليلة لا نرقد عن صلاة الفجر فقال بلال أنا فاستقبل مطلع الشمس فضرب على آذانهم فما أيقظهم إلا حر الشمس فقاموا فأدوها ثم توضئوا فأذن بلال فصلوا الركعتين ثم صلوا الفجر
Its isnad is sahih, and it is found in Muslim 1/471, no. 680, in the Book of Mosques, chapter on making up a missed prayer, and in Abu Dawud 1/120, no. 447, in the Book of Prayer, chapter on one who sleeps through a prayer, and in Nasai 1/298, no. 624, in the Book of Prayer Times, chapter on how to make up a missed prayer, and in Ibn Majah 1/227, no. 697, similar to Abu Dawud.
