I came to the Prophet ﷺ after he had finished with the people of Badr, bringing with me the foal of a mare of mine called al-Qarha. I said, "Muhammad, I have brought you the foal of al-Qarha for you to take."He said, "I have no need for it. But if you wish, I can exchange it for the choicest of the armor taken at Badr."I replied, "I would not exchange it today for any equivalent."He said, "Then I have no need for it." Then he said, "Dhul-Jawshan, will you not accept Islam, so you may be among the first followers of this affair?"I said, "No."He asked, "Why?"I said, "I have seen your people utterly opposed to you."He replied, "Have you not heard what happened to them at Badr where they were slain?"I said, "Yes, news has reached me."He said, "We invite you to guidance."I said, "Not unless you conquer the Kaabah and dwell in it."He said, "Perhaps if you live, you will see that."Then he said, "Bilal, take the man's saddlebag and provide him with provisions of ajwa dates."When I turned to leave, he said, "He is among the best horsemen of Banu Amir."By Allah, I was with my family in the lowlands when a rider approached. I asked, "What have the people done?"He said, "By Allah, Muhammad has conquered the Kaabah and settled in it."I said, "May my mother be bereaved of me. Had I accepted Islam that day and then asked him for al-Hira, he would have granted it to me."
حدثنا أبو صالح الحكم بن موسى حدثنا عيسى بن يونس قال أبي أخبرنا عن أبيه
أتيت النبي ﷺ بعد أن فرغ من أهل بدر بابن فرس لي يقال لها القرحاء فقلت يا محمد إني قد جئتك بابن القرحاء لتتخذه قال لا حاجة لي فيه وإن أردت أن أقيضك فيها المختارة من دروع بدر فعلت فقلت ما كنت لأقيضه اليوم بعدة قال لا حاجة لي فيه ثم قال يا ذا الجوشن ألا تسلم فتكون من أول أهل هذا الأمر فقلت لا قال لم قلت إني رأيت قومك ولعوا بك قال فكيف بلغك عن مصارعهم ببدر قلت قد بلغني قال فإنا نهدي لك قلت إن تغلب على الكعبة وتقطنها قال لعلك إن عشت ترى ذلك ثم قال يا بلال خذ حقيبة الرجل فزوده من العجوة فلما أدبرت قال أما إنه من خير فرسان بني عامر قال فوالله إني بأهلي بالغور إذ أقبل راكب فقلت ما فعل الناس قال والله قد غلب محمد على الكعبة وقطنها فقلت هبلتني أمي ولو أسلم يومئذ ثم أسأله الحيرة لأقطعنيها
